When Color Takes Shape — Césaire × Joséphine Capsule

The encounter between Stéphanie Césaire and Alain Joséphine gives birth to a capsule where the boundaries between art and craftsmanship naturally fade away.

Their story began long before this collaboration.
Both grew up in Martinique and have known each other since their school days. Early on, they shared the same sensibility: the belief that creation can carry the memory of a landscape, a light, an intimate emotion.

Their paths diverged, yet their vision remained closely aligned.

Alain Joséphine turned to painting. His work explores the vibration of color, the reliefs and silences of the Martinican landscape, somewhere between abstraction and sensation. His canvases capture fragments of earth, sky, and water like pulses.

Stéphanie Césaire shapes leather with the same attention to gesture and material, transforming the bag into a sculptural object designed to last and accompany everyday life.

Today, their worlds come together in an exclusive collaboration: a leather goods capsule where painting enters into dialogue with leather, and color becomes material.

The capsule

The collection consists of six unique pieces conceived as works of art to wear.

First, four Carambole.
Their supple leather bodies are digitally printed with selected details from Alain Joséphine’s paintings. Each bag corresponds to a singular fragment of image, a unique framing. No motif repeats. Each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind fragment of artwork, worn close to the body. The elongated, nomadic shape of the Carambole further reveals the vibration of color, like a moving landscape.

Two Nô complete the collection.
For this occasion, Stéphanie Césaire revisits her iconic model with a more generous volume. Inside, a removable pouch crafted from a silk scarf edited by the artist and lined with lambskin extends the dialogue between textile and leather, surface and depth.

Two unique versions emerge: one in sky-blue taurillon leather, the other in papaya saddle calfskin, each conceived as a chromatic variation of the painter’s universe.

The capsule will be presented in the gallery, as well as in-store and online, from February 12.

The exhibition

This capsule accompanies Alain Joséphine’s first solo exhibition in Paris.

His works unfold with the same chromatic intensity and tactile presence as those transposed onto leather — a living, almost tangible painting where the eye moves as through a landscape.

The Césaire × Joséphine collection is presented in dialogue, as a material extension of the canvases.
